Charles Raymond "Ray" Brotbeck

Charles Raymond "Ray" Brotbeck, 70, of Logansport, passed away on September 13, 2025 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.

Born August 4, 1955, in Tokyo, Japan, he was the son of the late Charles and Eva (Watkins) Brotbeck. His father was a career Air Force officer, who reached the rank of Colonel. He flew rescue planes during WWII and later worked at the United States Pentagon. Sadly, his father died at a young age. His mother was later married John Echler, who also preceded in death.

On December 24, 1987, in Logansport, he was married to Sandra "Sandie" Schoenradt, who survives.

A graduate of Riverdale High School, in Fort Myers, Florida, Ray earned his Associates degree in 1973 from the Edison's Community College.

Ray spent years working in engineering as a Senior CAD Technician with Hole-Montes & Associates. When the economy took a downturn and the company closed, he didn't hesitate-he did what he always did: stepped up. In 2008, determined to keep providing for his family, Ray went back to school at Hi-Tech North in Cape Coral to train as an IT tech. He was proud of that accomplishment, and rightly so. Ray poured himself into this new field with the same drive and dedication he'd always shown until his battle with diabetes affected his eyesight.

Ray was a member of the Christian Church. Ray was a true sports guy. He loved golfing, and he never missed a chance to cheer on his Washington Redskins or the Texas Rangers. Coaching came naturally to him-whether it was Little League, baseball, or just helping out wherever he was needed, Ray gave it his all.

He was a big kid in the best way. Model trains brought him real joy, and he could spend hours tinkering with them. He bowled, he enjoyed walking, he took pride in his yard- Ray found happiness in the simple things.

But more than anything, Ray was a family man. His wife and kids came first, always. He lived with his priorities in the right order, and that's what people will remember most. Ray was also a huge Beatles fan. His vinyl collection was legendary, and his love for the band ran so deep that he even wore his hair like the Beatles when he walked down the aisle. That moment said everything-about his sense of humor, his style, and the joy he carried into life.

Surviving with his wife, Sandie, are two sons, Jason (Lauren) Shideler, and Jordan Brotbeck, all of Logansport; one brother, George (Mary) Brotbeck, Jacksonville, Florida; one sister, Betty (Fred) Morando, Fort Myers, Florida; one brother-in-law, Gary Wallace, Cape Coral, Florida; three grandchildren, Ashton Shideler, Taryn Shideler, and Jaden Shideler; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

On April 18, 2024, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Wallace.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
