Charles Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wolfe Funeral Home - Fort Mill on Jan. 10, 2026.
Charles James "Jim" Brown, age 99, passed away January 9, 2026. He was born in Montreal, Canada, December 1, 1926. He was the son of Kenneth and Elizabeth Brown. After serving in the Canadian artillery during the last active year of WWII, Jim married Jean Farquharson who he was married to for 70 years. He began working for the Homelite corporation at the age of 24 and worked for them for over 30 years. His occupation allowed his family to move all over Canada and the United States until they settled in Tega Cay, SC in 1975. In 1983 Jim went into business for himself in the printing industry where he worked for 10 years. While in Tega Cay, Jim and Jean were very active in the community including the Lions Club, dinner bridge groups, and the yacht club. They enjoyed traveling extensively nationally and internationally. Jim was an avid reader and loved music. As his vision declined, Jim continued his love of reading as he listened to hundreds of books on his device from the SC Association for the Blind. He also became a master at requesting songs on his Alexa and planned his week around musical programs at his retirement home. Surviving are his children, Katherine Anne Brown, Michael Kenneth Brown (Vereen), Douglas Farquharson Brown (Kimberly); grandchildren Taylor Brown Johnson (Rob), Kenneth McClary Brown (Alyssa), Casey Wallace-Melton (Richardson); 5 great-grandchildren, Bo Brown, Mary Hoke Johnson, Wells Brown, Hattie Johnson, Anna Banks Brown, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Jean Brown, his brother Ken Brown of North Bay, Canada, and great-granddaughter Greer Brown. Jim's family and holidays were special to him. He proved that by spending Christmas and New Years Eve with his children and grandchildren this year. Of course his favorite parts of the celebrations included the hugs, laughter, songs, and chocolate desserts! The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends are requested to send a donation to the charity of their choice.
