ELIZABETH CITY, NC - Charles Frank Brown, born June 28, 1934, in the verdant landscapes of Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, at the age of 91.

Born to a humble sharecropper's family, Charles spent his early life both studying and working on the family farm. With a strong sense of duty and patriotism, he joined the United States Marine Corps, dedicating two decades of his life to serving his country with honor and valor. During his distinguished military career, Charles was involved in pivotal moments of history, serving two tours in Vietnam, contributing during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and providing service in Okinawa where he managed the challenging operations associated with Agent Orange.

After completing his service, Charles returned home and began a new chapter of devotion, marrying his beloved Janie Pope. Together, they crafted a life replete with love and mutual respect, cherishing 52 years of marriage until her passing. A man of unwavering integrity, Charles never sought acclaim for his military service, instead choosing to build a life through hard work and dedication.

Professionally, Charles contributed as a devoted security guard, ensuring the safety of many at Roanoke Chowan Hospital for two decades before continuing his service at Elizabeth City Hospital until his health would permit no longer.

Charles is preceded in death by his siblings, William Thomas Brown, Hellen Pritchard, Mary Lee Dettman, and Sally Marie Brown. He leaves behind a loving nephew, Charles Ray Brown, of Columbia, SC, William Ray Beachboard and Amanda Allene Courture of Winchendon, Ma as well as Samantha Nicole Beachboard of Eure, NC, alongside numerous friends and acquaintances who cherished his steadfast companionship and wisdom. In memory of a life well-lived and a spirit that touched all who had the privilege to know him, Charles Frank Brown will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

A graveside celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery in Como, NC, where military honors will be rendered, reflecting his valorous service to the nation.
