Charles “Bunky” Overstreet January 3, 1930 – August 16, 2025

Charles “Bunky” Overstreet, 95, of Jessamine County, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025. Born January 3, 1930, he was the eldest son of Clark and Grace Teater Overstreet. Bunky was a proud veteran of the Korean War and a lifelong member of the American Legion. Before his military service, he was a gifted athlete and pitcher for the 1948 Douglas Rebels, a minor league team for the St. Louis Cardinals. Upon returning home, he dedicated his life to farming and preserving the rich history of Jessamine County. Known as a passionate historian and storyteller, Bunky’s knowledge and memories of the community became treasured gifts to friends and neighbors. His stories—always told with warmth and wit—will live on in those who were fortunate enough to hear them.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Teater Overstreet; his son, Doug Doolin; and his daughter-in-law, Charlene Finsterwald Doolin. He leaves behind a legacy of love and family through his grandchildren, Kim Doolin Young, Doug Doolin Jr. (Tabitha), and Hannah Doolin; great-grandchildren Dawson Doolin, Hayden (Blanca) Doolin, Austin Young, Cassidy (Derik) Stamper, Taysean Spillman, and Zoey Doolin; and great-great-grandchildren Sawyer, Laney Jo, Wrenley, Josie, and Elaina Doolin, and Luke Stamper. Bunky is also survived by his brother, George, and sister-in-law, Jean Elain Overstreet; his nephew, Eddie (Caroline) Overstreet; his niece, Sally (James) Andrews; and a large extended family who will forever cherish his memory. Bunky will be remembered not only as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, but also as a man of integrity, community, and faith. His life was marked by service to his country, dedication to his land, and a deep love for his family. Bunky was a devoted member of the “Hardees” breakfast club and he will be greatly missed by his friends that he shared many stories with at “Hardees”. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

Visitation will be held at Hager & Cundiff Funeral home on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. A Remembrance Service will be held Hager & Cundiff Funeral home on Thursday, 08/21/2025 at 11:00AM. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dawson Doolin, Hayden Doolin, Austin Young, Derik Stamper, Billy Fount House and Charles Teater. Honorary pallbearers will be George Overstreet and Billy Teater.

“May the Lord bless this farmer, and grant him eternal rest. May his legacy of hard work and dedication live on.” This obituary was lovingly submitted by the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home and we would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Overstreet family and friends.
