Charles "Chuck" William Burgess, age 61, of Temple, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025. He was born on November 20, 1963 in Crossville, Tennessee, the son of the late James Edward Burgess and Lenora Burgess Allen.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his son, Grady Burgess; and sisters, Judith Holladay and Robyn Cox.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Chelsea and Brandon Waters; grandchildren, Greyson Kelly, Chansley Waters, Addison Welch, Lee Caraway, Landon Waters, and Brandon Waters; his sisters, Lynda Minton, Melissa Caudle, Cynthia Burgess and Lisa Boyce; brothers, James Burgess and Royce Burgess; loving mothers to his children, Peggy Burgess and Julie Brown; close friends who were like family, Anthony Spradlin and James Douglas; and many nieces and nephews and extended family members that will miss him tremendously.
Chuck was an avid fan of Tennessee Vols Football, he wore their shirts almost daily even outside of football season, just in case anyone forgot who he would be cheering for. He also loved to cheer on the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed a close game. Chuck always had something clever or witty to say and in his later years would share bits of wisdom to encourage others. He was a proud father and loved his children and family deeply. Prior to the decline of his health, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, visiting the mountains and trying his luck at the casino. He could make a friend anywhere including the medical offices where he received his weekly care.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 12:00 PM from Emmaus Primitive Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the service hour.
Messages of condolence may be shared with the family at www.martin-hightower.com. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel is honored to care for the Burgess family during this time of loss.
