Charles "Chuck" William Callum
December 4, 1933 – June 13, 2025
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Charles "Chuck" William Callum, 91, passed away on June 13, 2025, in Oklahoma City. Born on December 4, 1933, Chuck lived a life full of service, dedication, and deep love for his family, students, and community.
Chuck graduated from Capitol Hill High School and, at the young age of 16, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. When it was discovered that he was underage, he joined the U.S. Army instead and proudly served during the time of the Korean War.
A lifelong learner, Chuck earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma and a master's degree from Central State College in Edmond. He pursued further graduate studies at both the University of California and the University of Oklahoma.
His professional life was dedicated to education. Chuck served as a teacher, counselor, and administrator in the Oklahoma City Public School System, and later held principal positions at Fairfax High School, McAlester High School, Yukon High School, and Reydon High School. He also served as Assistant Superintendent in the Ponca City Public School System before concluding his distinguished career as high school principal in McLean, Texas. Over the years, Chuck received numerous awards and honors in recognition of his excellence and leadership as an educator.
Chuck was a passionate OU Sooners football and OU women's softball fan. Known for his quick wit and sharp memory, he could best nearly anyone in trivia-especially in history, sports, Bible knowledge, and classic films. He was a wonderful father and a loyal friend, cherishing close friendships with Larry, Loyd, and Ronny.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Fern Callum; his sister, Janet Basey; his daughter, Linda Callum; and his beloved cat and constant companion, Tommy.
Chuck is survived by his daughters, Virginia Howard and Janet Quenzer, both of Oklahoma City; his sister, Pam Morton of Anthony, Kansas; grandchildren Mary Eileen (Chris) Webb, Jaime (Keith) Willson, Kelli (George) Knudsen, and Steven Hargrove; and great-grandchildren Elizabeth Hargrove, Henry Webb, Audrey Webb, and George Knudsen.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Jenni, LaTonya, and Derrick of Excel HomeHealth for their exceptional care and kindness in Chuck's final days.
