Charles Holbrook Cannon Sr. of Lakeland Fl. passed away peacefully on May 25 th, 2024. He was 97.
Charles was born on January 31,1927, in Lake Wales Florida and raised in Avon Park Florida with his 4
sisters and brother. Graduating from High School in 1944, he joined the Merchant Marine, assisting with
the task of returning POWs to the USA. In 1947 He joined the FBI in Washington DC as a clerk while
attending Southeastern University. Upon completion of his BS degree, he was appointed as an FBI
Special Agent in 1950. He met his future wife Judy at Arlington Va. Methodist Church and were married
in 1951. In 1955 they moved to Wauchula, Fl. to join his dad and brother in running Cannon Building
Materials. As an active member of the Wauchula community for over 60 years, he served in many
church and civic roles; Sunday School superintendent, Methodist Men, Masons, City Council member,
and a lifelong Kiwanian. He was an avid bowler and loved golfing with friends and family. He loved
people and could always be found at the local coffee shop or with his Carpenters breakfast group.
Charles is survived by his children, Charles H. (Teresa) Cannon Jr., Sarah Cannon (Tom) Fargo, and James
(Daina) Cannon, his five Grandchildren, Catherine Cannon (Rishi) Goel, Elizabeth Cannon (John Riordan),
Bill (Caity) Fargo, Clarice Cannon (Russell) Montgomery, and Holly Cannon (Drake) Brady and four great-
grandchildren Peter and Julia Goel and Liam and Maddie Fargo.
Charles was preceded in Death by his wife of 50 years Judy Cannon and a son Tommy Cannon.
Services will be on May 29 th at the First United Methodist Church, Wauchula. Visitation is 10:00-11:00
am. The service will be held at 11:00 am. There will be a reception for friends and family after the
service in the church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the First United Methodist Church are appreciated.
