Charles Robert ""Bob'' Carlberg, Sr., 87, passed away on June 3, 2008 from complications of Alzheimer's at Chris Jensen Nursing Home. He was born on Dec. 19, 1920 to Albert and Anna Carlberg. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1939. Bob was a decorated war veteran in the Army's 10th Mountain Division where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving in Italy during World War II. He was instrumental in starting the first National Ski Patrol (NSP in Duluth in 1956 and remained active in the NSP until 2003, receiving his National Number and Distinguished Service Award. Bob was an avid ski jumper, alpine skier and golfer throughout his life winning many local and national awards. He was a sales representative for numerous companies throughout his career. He is preceded in death by his parents. Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose; children, Barbara (David) Dezell, Chuck, Patty (Mark) Beardsley, and Ron (Patti); 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Dick (Sandy); sister, Helen Bartz; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the staff of the Willows unit of Chris Jensen Nursing Home for the professional and loving care he received. FUNERAL SERVICE:1 p.m. on Monday, June 9, with visitation one hour prior to service in Elim Lutheran Church, 6101 Cody Street, Duluth. Visitation Sunday, June 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, 218-624-5200. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Willows unit of Chris Jensen Nursing Home, St. Mary's Hospice or Elim Lutheran Church. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Auntie Rose and family:
