Services for Glennda Dawn Carlberg, 71, of Des Moines, who passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center, will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, April 17 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Hartford Cemetery, Hartford. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Glennda Dawn Carlberg was born October 22, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ivyl and Helen Lester. Glennda spent most of her younger years with her grandmother, who lived just a few houses down from her parents and she graduated from Carlisle High School.
The love of animals was one of Glennda's passions. As a young girl, she had cats, dogs, raccoons, and even a pet monkey, named Timmy, who she would always talk about.
Larry Carlberg and Glennda were married at the Hartford Church on February 14, 1976.
After retirement, Glennda and Larry would make annual trips up and down the Mississippi River on an old paddle boat. They also enjoyed their trips to Colorado to visit her parents and brother. Glennda loved Elvis, and she and Larry went through Graceland on a trip. They also went to Mexico for 10 days and stayed with their niece's mother in 2013. Glennda and Larry enjoyed traveling and until recent years, when health problems developed, they made numerous trips several of them outside of the United States.
Glennda is survived by her loving husband, Larry; mother, Helen Lester; brother, Dennis Lester; aunt and uncle, Gerald and Sandy Hammond; and many other family and friends. Shes preceded in death by her father, Ivyl Lester; and sister-in-law, Linda Lester.
Glennda was a very kind and loving person. She would do anything for anybody and she was well liked by everyone. Rest in Peace Glennda. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Animal Rescue League in Glennda's memory.
