Charles Armour "Jack" Clugston, II, 85, of Port St. Lucie, FL, and formerly of
Hagerstown, MD passed away, Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at his home with his partner Della Wilson by his side.
Born Sunday, January 28, 1940, in
Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Charles Armour Clugston, Sr. and the late Marie (Shelleman) Clugston. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Hilda Yvonne (Mummert) Clugston.
He graduated from the first class of the newly divided North Hagerstown High School, formerly Hagerstown High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy January 23, 1958, serving as Aviation Machinist's mate, third class. Stationed in several locations, he often spoke of his time in the Azores and Lakehurst, NJ.
Upon returning home he worked for various companies in the kitchen and bath industry before beginning his own business. Founded by the Clugston family, Jack, his late wife Hilda, son David, and daughter Julie Fiery began J&D Kitchen Distributors, a wholesale kitchen, appliance, and bath products distributor in 1982 with a small retail showroom and significant warehouse facilities in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Today, as a testament to his past leadership, J&D continues to thrive in its current location on Old National Pike, Hagerstown Maryland. In 1986 he had the honor of being selected to serve on the Magic Chef Dealer Council, which has significant input in reference to product development across the country.
Prior to relocating to Florida, he was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where he served on Church Council, Personnel Committee, Property Committee, and as the church banker. Jack also volunteered in various positions in the athletic community of Clear Spring, serving as a Little League coach, Junior Basketball coach, and as the president of Clear Spring High School Athletic Boosters. Jack also enjoyed participating in the local church basketball, softball, and bowling leagues as well as playing in the Men's Basketball League in Clear Spring, Maryland.
He is survived by his partner Della Zumbrum Wilson, son, Charles David Clugston and wife Kathryn of Falling Waters, WV, daughter, Julie Anne Fiery and husband Doug of
Hagerstown, MD, grandchildren Mark Steven Murphy of Falling Waters, WV, Mandy Fiery Auwaerter and husband Alec of
Hagerstown, MD and Andrew Taylor Fiery and wife Brianna of Sparrows Point, MD, sister Anna Lee Ireland of
Hagerstown, MD and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
He was also preceded in death by an infant brother David Gearhart Clugston.
Jack had many interests such as golfing and billiards, but his favorite activity was dancing. Anyone that knew him probably saw him on the dance floor at some point. This was a lifelong love, from teaching his younger sister to dance, attending dances with his late wife Hilda, to sharing his love of dance with his current partner, Della. Together, he and Della retired to Florida and enjoyed many social activities with their local friends.
