Charles Connell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGuinness Funeral Homes - Woodbury on Jan. 17, 2026.
Charles A. Connell Jr., of Woodbury Heights, NJ, passed away on January 15, 2026. He was 74.

Legacy

He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved to be around his family, especially his grandchildren. A skilled carpenter who took pride in honest work and helping others, Charles was a proud member of the United States Army, carrying a lifelong commitment to service, faith and community. Charles generously gave his time through St. Vincent DePaul, prison ministry and Cub Scouts. He was known for quietly helping those in need, often helping those experiencing homelessness to their next meal, by driving a bus to Camden. He loved nature, especially birds and was a devoted dog lover. Charles enjoyed spontaneous vacations and gatherings with friends, always ready for laughter and connection. He lived his faith through action and left his mark on everyone he met. For many, Charles was a steady guide – a North Star whose example will continue to lead the way.

Family

Charles is survived by his wife of 50 wonderful years, Moira (nee Gillan); 3 children, James, Colleen and Shaun and his wife Kristin; 7 Grandchildren, Patryk (Faith), Bridgitte (Jake), Joshua (Natalie), Gracie, Shaun, Alyssa and Brendan; Great-Grandchildren, Cali and Remi; Siblings, Walt and his wife Susan, Marylou and Eileen. Predeceased by his parents, Charles Sr. and Hazel (nee Duncan) Connell. Charles is also survived by his extended family and dear friends.

It was a blessing to know you, Charlie. I learned so much from you in your service to others. I have so many fond memories of all the client visits we made and all those helped through St. Vincent DePaul. Remembering volunteering at the food pantry and all those we helped with food, cards and other items. Putting together gifts and baskets during the holidays. And what would we have done without you and your truck to deliver appliances and many things so needed by our clients. There was nothing you wouldn´t do to help those in need. You demonstrated your faith in The Lord and were and will always be an example to all of us. You will always be in our hearts and Infant Jesus Parish. Well done dear servant of Our Lord Jesus. God Bless You and your Family. God Speed Dear Friend, Dianne Almond, Paul and Rebecca

RIP CHARLIE. I knew Charlie as we both worked at GSYCF. Charlie was the most honest and principled man and had a deep faith. One of the things we shared was his being a Veteran. Every Dec 7th he made sure to mention his respect for my father who was a Pearl Harbor survivor even after we both retired. Charlie has left his mark on the world and everyone he met. I´m sure that he is now doing it in heaven.
RIP CHARLIE. Your job is done here on earth rest easy and maintain.
