Charles Robert Cornett, Jr., (70) passed away on March 12, 2023, as a result of several illnesses. Chuck was born on February 25, 1953, in the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Charles Robert Cornett and Elsie Mae Stonebarger. Growing up he lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio, and several locations in California, including Bakersfield where he attended East Bakersfield High School. As a youth he excelled in baseball and track. As an adult he worked many different jobs, including union negotiator, auto mechanic, auto recycler, race car pit crew member, and long haul truck driver. He also spent a short time in the army. His favorite hobby all his life was fishing. Chuck overcame many struggles in his life and found satisfaction in helping others to overcome the same kinds of challenges.
Chuck is survived by his children Dawn Marie Barth (Steven), James Jensen, Joshua Cornett, Kari Mendoza, and Jeremiah Cornett (Melissa); his sister Beverly Burdett (Kevin); 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; two nephews; many cousins who were like siblings to him; and many friends who helped him get by as his illnesses got worse. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and one grandchild. Chuck was interred at the Orem City Cemetery, Orem, Utah, on March 21, 2023. His brother-in-law, Kevin Burdett, dedicated the grave.
