Our Loving Charles Cunningham, 69 of Bedford County, VA, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the beloved son of the late Moses and Hazeltine Anthony Cunningham. In addition to his parent Charles was preceded in death by two brothers, Christopher Cunningham and Richard Cunningham; and one sister, Christine Goode.

Charles was born and raised in Bedford County, VA. He was also well known in Body Camp. He graduated from high school in 1973 and began his military career. After leaving the Army, Sgt. Charles proudly served another 24 years in the Army National Guard. Charles retired from Rubatex in Bedford. He loved hosting family gatherings and cookouts. Folks came from all around to get his Beer Can Chicken and his famous Welfare Burgers. Charles loved watching movies and had quite the collection. In his free time, he enjoyed going for rides on his motorcycle, fishing, playing pool and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his only son, Charles “Charlie” Harvey Anderson (Heather); three beloved grandchildren, Jorden Berry, Harlee Hurt (Trey), and Kobe Anderson; four dear sisters, Pat Nelms, Ella Range, Doris Penn and Marilyn Jones; special niece, Angel Cunningham, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

For those wishing to make memorial contributions please consider donations to the US Army National Guard or charity of choice.

A funeral service and celebration of Charles’ life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Chapel in Bedford. Burial will follow at New Zion Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, also at Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford.
