Charles "Brian" Dandy November 29, 1932- October 20th, 2024
On October 20th, 2024, Charles B. Dandy, age 91, passed away peacefully in his home in Sussex, Wisconsin.
Brian, as he was known to most people, lived a full and happy life. He grew up in Sheffield, England and married the love of his life, the late Irene Dandy, in 1953. They were married for 65 years. Brian and Irene moved to America in 1967 for Brian to work as a master tool and die maker to provide a better life for their family. They accomplished that and more. Together they have 5 children: Gerald Dandy (Ila), Louise Prihoda (Mike), Maria Schaffhauser (Tom), Gail Bratten/ Dandy (Scott-deceased), and Lisa Lewis (Bob), 8 grandchildren: Missy Jo, Jeremy (Courtney), Katlynn, Michelle (Cameron), Jake, Lakesha (Flavio), Rapheal (Ronalda), Sofia, and many great grandchildren. Brian is survived by his wonderful sister Maureen Jacobs.
Brian loved soccer; he played soccer in England and as a young man even tried out for his favorite team, Sheffield Wednesday, and considered it to be one of his greatest accomplishments. He said once that he failed at the try out, but other than that, he was successful! He brought his love of soccer with him to America, and into our family.Brian played with the Latino S.C. in Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Kickers Old-Timers team. He coached at Whitefish Bay High School, taking them to the state championship, and also coached the Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Kickers youth teams. Brian began officiating in 1968 and was consistently acknowledged as one of the most respected and knowledgeable referees in Wisconsin. He served as the state director of referee instruction as well as on the Wisconsin Soccer Association board, contributed to referee assessment, and ultimately was inducted into the WSA Hall of Fame.
Brian was a great man in so many ways. He loved all animals, especially dogs. He enjoyed camping and outings with family, fishing in Canada, sunrises and sunsets in Florida, watching a good Benny Hill episode, the English Premier League, and the World Cup. He could and would talk to anyone, no matter what walk of life. He liked a good game of blackjack and had a way of getting everyone at the table laughing and talking. His good humor and brutally honest wit were contagious. Recently he was asked if there were ever a statue made of him, what he would want it to say, and he replied:
"Once I was there, and now I'm not."
An open house celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 10th from 1:00 - 4:00pm at Brian's home, located In the Williams Springs Mobile Park Address N65W22201 Silver Leaf Drive, Lot H13, Sussex, WI 53089.
