Charles Dedo Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jun. 20, 2024.
Youngstown--Charles "Chuck" Michael Dedo, 81, passed away peacefully June 11, 2024.
Chuck was born on September 1, 1942 in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
He was a 1960 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. After high school, Chuck attended Youngstown College where he majored in Medical Technology. He later interned at Akron Children's Hospital where he met the woman that changed his life forever. It was in Akron where he met and fell in love with the beautiful Jeannette Magerko. They married on September 16, 1967. Chuck worked at Northside Hospital for 40 years as a Medical Technologist. In December of 1967, Chuck was drafted into the U. S. Army and served with a medical hospital unit in Germany.
Chuck had many interests and friends. He enjoyed making arguably the driest wine in all the Mahoning Valley and sharing his freshly corked bottles with friends and family. He would tell stories of his many bocci tournament victories and losses, but the emphasis was always on the victories. Chuck always found peace on the water, either fishing on Lake Erie, or deep-sea fishing off the Carolina Coast. He was also always on the hunt for the ever-elusive morel mushroom. At home, he found a feeling of accomplishment tending to his ever-growing crop of fig trees and a newly acquired apricot tree. Fig harvest time was a time to show everyone what his hard work was about, and Chuck would always offer a fresh fig plucked straight from the tree to anyone in attendance. He was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus member for 30 years, a member of the VFW, Bessemer Croatian Club, and a member of the American Legion. Chuck's daughters gifted him with two amazing granddaughters, and Chuck found great joy in attending their sporting events and the occasional play. Papa was their biggest fan.
Chuck will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of 56 years, Jeannette, daughters, Laura (Ryan) Spencer of Canfield and Jennifer (Jim) Schweitzer of Medina. From heaven, he will continue to be the biggest fan of granddaughters, Cara Spencer, Claire Schweitzer; and step granddaughter, Taylor Schweitzer. He also leaves behind a loving brother, Bob (Lorraine) Dedo, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Holy Family Church in Poland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given, in Chuck's name, to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society.
Family and friends are encouraged to offer prayers for the family and support via phone call, text, email or may visit the Book of Memories at www.rossifunerals.com.
