Charles Deiwert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eichel Funeral Home on Mar. 24, 2026.
Charles N. Deiwert, Sr.

May 27, 1938 – March 6, 2026

Charles "Charlie" Deiwert Sr of Pennsauken, NJ passed away peacefully at home on

March 6th, 2026, surrounded by his family, at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving

wife of 63 years Dorothy Deiwert, his children, Joann (Gabe) Pilla, Susan (Dave) Fryer,

and Charles Deiwert Jr (Amy Meloni) his grandchildren, Gabriel Pilla III, Lauren (Robert)

Hart, Michael (Kelsey) Pilla, Brandon Pierce, Kimberly (John) Roulston, Abby Fryer,

Briana Deiwert, Brynn Deiwert, and Bianca Deiwert.

Charlie was raised in Camden and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in

1957. He went on to work for PSEG as a lineman and eventually retired as a safety

coordinator. Charlie was deeply committed to youth and community involvement. He

was a longtime volunteer, coach, and President at Cramer Hill Boys Club, where he was

a positive influence, mentor and friend to many. Later he volunteered for Pennsauken

Youth Athletic Association and The Cathedral Kitchen.

Charlie loved golf and spent his later years working as a ranger at the Pennsauken

Country Club. He golfed every day, unless the course was closed. He was always there

bright and early and was probably one of the quickest golfers around.

Charlie's greatest joy was being Pop Pop to his grandchildren. He never missed a

game, tournament, competition, recital, or play. He loved spending summers down the

shore at the trailer, fishing and crabbing on the boat, swimming in the ocean, playing

mini golf, walking the boardwalk or whatever else his grandkids put him up to. Pop Pop

memories and stories will live on forever.

Charlie touched many lives, from those he coached, mentored, befriended, and loved.

His presence will be missed, but his memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of his

family and those who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Life will be

held at the Pennsauken Country Club on Friday April 3rd from 10:00 am to 11:30 am,

where family, friends and members of the community are invited to gather, share

memories and honor Charlie's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the

Boys & Girls Club of Camden County or the Cathedral Kitchen.
