Obituary of Susan Jean Gatchell

Susan Jean Gatchell of Upper Chichester, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on March 13, 2026. She was 76 years old.

Susan was born to the late James and Dorothy (Leins) Cook in Philadelphia. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Levittown (1967), going on to Bloomsburg State College where she earned her bachelor's degree (1967-1971), then West Chester University where she earned her master's in business education. She first started her teaching career in Morrisville for (one year) before teaching at Ridley High School from 1972 to 1983, then (in) Garnet Valley from 1983 to 2004. She most certainly enjoyed her work with the students in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). Outside of her work Susan enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, cooking for others as well as travelling across Europe with her husband.

Susan is survived by her dear husband of 53 years Richard Gatchell; nephew Grant (Alicia) Gatchell; niece Courtney Preston; great nephews and nieces Lila and Sullivan Gatchell, Colin and Carissa Preston, and her sister-in-law Marie Boulden.

Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation Saturday March 28, 2026, 10:30-11:00 AM at Elam United Methodist Church 1073 Smithbridge Rd. Glen Mills, PA. A (memorial service) will follow at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations be made to Elam United Methodist Church or Siloam United Methodist Church 3720 Foulk Rd. Garnet Valley PA.
