Obituary of John J. DeMaio

John J. DeMaio of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his home on March 12, 2026, at the age of 80.

Born in Chester, Pennsylvania, John was the son of the late Ignazio and Angelina (Iacono) DeMaio. He attended St. Anthony's Grammar School and later graduated from St. James High School. He continued his education at Temple University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and went on to build a long and dedicated career as a Pharmacist. Over the years, John served his community through his work at Eckerd Drugs in Newark, Delaware, and later at the Veterans Hospital in Elsmere, Delaware, where he cared for and assisted countless patients with kindness and professionalism.

John was a man who valued family, friendship, and the simple pleasures in life. In his free time, he enjoyed coin collecting and could often be found playing pool, cards, or bowling with friends. He especially cherished time spent reconnecting with fellow alumni from St. Anthony's and St. James, sharing memories and laughter.

Above all, John loved his family deeply and took great pride in them. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary (Moran) DeMaio; his sons, Michael DeMaio (Cynthia) and Daniel DeMaio (Teresa); his sisters, Maryann Smedley, Lucy Buono (Vince), and Linda Rivello (Jim); and his cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Jack, Kate, Leela, and Arcturus DeMaio. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his daughter, Allison DeMaio; his sister, Elizabeth Tomaszewski; and his brother, Vito DeMaio.

John will be remembered for his quiet strength, warm heart, and the love he shared with those closest to him.

Services will be held privately.
