Charles (Gene) E. Doyle, 96, of Blessing, Texas, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 9th, at his residence, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on February 15, 1929, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Mattie (Vannoy) Doyle and Alvin Doyle.

After high school, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. He served from July 27, 1950 – January 17, 1952, obtaining the rank of Corporal. Gene received several awards, Presidential Unit Citation, Purple Heart, Korean Service Metal, and the United Nations Service Metal, a qualified as a Rifle Sharpshooter. Following serving overseas, he served in the USMCR 8th Marine Corps Reserve District with the rank of Private 1st Class.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, and uncles, Thomas, George, James and Kenneth.

He is survived by his wife Lula Mae Doyle of Blessings, Texas; Son Charles E. Doyle, Jr., and wife Patricia of Palacios, Texas; daughter, Dana Doyle Holloway of Maryville, Tennessee; grand daughter Ashlea Morgan Feinstein and husband Ben of Alanta, Georgia and a great grandson; Sy Feinstein. Sister, Betty Doyle Causey, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14th, from 5 – 6 PM at the Wheeler Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside service will be conducted at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 15th, at the Garden of Memories Pavillion, with Samuel B. Doyle, of Manville, Texas conducting. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.

In lieu of usual remembrances donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or to the American Bible Association.
