Charles Thomas Duncan

Charles Thomas (Thom) Duncan passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 19th, 2025, at the age of 77 in Logan, Utah.

Thom was born on November 23rd, 1948, in South Gate, California. He was the oldest child born to Charles and Mary Duncan. Thom grew up in Lawndale, California, and attended William Anderson Elementary School, Will Rogers Middle School, and Lawndale High School, where he graduated in 1966. During his High School years, he participated in several activities, including marching band, dance, theater, fencing, and French. After graduation, Thom attended El Camino College in Torrance, California, where he met Marjorie Bromley. They were married on December 19, 1970, after he returned home from serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in France. Thom continued his education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Dramatic Arts.

Thom moved to Southern California after graduating and held various jobs in the technical writing and computer industries. In 1981, Thom moved his family back to Utah, where he worked for The Missionary Training Center and Wicat. He also worked on several freelance writing projects. Thom loved to write. He wrote many poems and short stories as well as several plays, including Matters of the Heart, Prophet, and a one-man show about Parley P. Pratt. He also wrote a fiction book series entitled “Moroni Smith and the Land of Zarahemla.” Thom also started the Nauvoo Theatrical Society, a place where fellow LDS writers and authors could publish and produce their plays. In 1992, Thom got a job in Northern California working for McGraw-Hill Publishing Company. He moved back to Utah in 1996, where he was employed by Novell Inc. in Provo, Utah.

Thom moved to Paso Robles, California, in 2012 to help his sister take care of his aging parents. He lived there until November 2021, when both of his parents passed away within four days of each other. Thom spent countless hours caring for and attending to his parents' needs. He enjoyed the time he spent with them and was a great example of selflessness as he faithfully served them. He moved back to Utah to be closer to his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved watching his grandchildren perform in their plays and concerts, and would try to attend them as much as possible.

Thom is survived by his ex-wife, Marjorie Bromley, his five children, Jenni (Ben) Moulton of Orem, Utah, Heather Olson (Bruce) Allred of Logan, Utah, Geoff Duncan of Sandy, Utah, Chera Nichols of Bradenton, Florida, and Alli (Jason) Holmes of Logan, Utah; 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Bonnie (Glen) De Graw of Paso Robles, California, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary (Parks) Duncan, and son-in-law, Scott Olson.

Funeral services will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary at 34 East Center Street in Logan, Utah, on Friday, January 2nd at 11:00 am. A viewing will also be held before the funeral at 9:30 am. For those unable to attend, the funeral will be recorded and uploaded to the funeral home’s website. Thom will be buried at the Logan City Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.
