Charles Willis Durr

 

Charles (Chuck) Willis Durr was welcomed home by his loving Father in Heaven, Savior, and many adoring family members on September 2, 2023. He was born to wonderful parents, Wilson Charles Durr and Dorothy Louise Nash Durr on December 20, 1946 in El Paso, Texas. He was a wonderful older brother to Russ Durr.  As a young man, he enjoyed sports, particularly football and baseball. 

Chuck's father served in the military which took the family to Japan and Hawaii. It was in Hawaii that his family was introduced to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Chuck was baptized in Honolulu, Hawaii as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on February 28, 1959 when he was twelve years old. Chuck served a dedicated two year church mission in Ireland in 1966 and 1967. (He later delighted his children with stories of leprechauns and banshees all while speaking with an Irish accent!) 

Upon returning home from Ireland, Chuck attended Dixie College. His first day there he laid eyes on the beautiful young woman who would become his wife. Fresh off of his mission, he enjoyed teaching Pam lessons about the Church. She quickly fell in love with the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and eventually fell in love with Chuck, too. They were married in Newport Beach, California on August 24, 1968, and sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on January 25, 1969. Chuck and Pam also studied at Snow College and Utah State University. Chuck graduated from USU with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology.

Chuck and Pam were blessed with six children. Charles Durr who was stillborn, Carol (William) Cluff of Centerville, Susie (Spencer) Miller of Thorp, Wisconsin, Joanna (Andrew) Preece of Layton, Robert (Eleasha) Durr of Riverton and Bryan (Nicole) Durr of Kaysville. They are the grandparents to 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. 

Chuck started his career off at Schreiber's Foods, he then was the Vice President of International benefits at Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators, where he traveled extensively throughout the world. He worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in finance and records as well as the Temple department. Chuck was the Recorder at the Bountiful Temple for 13 years retiring in 2010. Chuck and Pam served two missions together. The first at the Heber Valley Girls Camp and the second at Temple Square. 

Chuck had a deep love for his family which was evident in his words and actions. He loved Pam with all his heart. His devotion to her was constant throughout their lives and deeply evident in the last days of his life. He taught his children to love and trust in the Savior. To stand up for what is right and to care for others. He loved to connect with people and had the talent of making everyone he spent time with feel special. Chuck has innumerable friends who love him and he will be dearly missed by them, especially all of his golfing buddies. He loved playing golf and enjoyed watching football. He loved to travel for both work and pleasure.

Chuck is proceeded in death by his parents, Chuck and Dorothy Durr, his son Charles, brother Russ and grandson Brennan Cluff.   A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary, located at 1941 North Main Street in Farmington, on Friday, September 8th from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral services will be held at the Farmington Crossing ward house located at 980 Shepard Church Drive in Farmington on Saturday, September 9th at 11:00 am with a viewing prior from 9:30-10:40 am. Interment will be at the Centerville City Cemetery.
