Charles Ericson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mackey Funeral Home - Middleton on Mar. 3, 2026.
Charles "Rick" Ericson III, 69, of Rowley Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 18, 1956, in Melrose Ma. to the late Charles R Ericson and Marilyn (Brennan) Ericson of Peabody Ma, originally from Malden Ma.In his younger years Rick lived in Malden and Amherst Ma. He later moved to West Peabody Ma, where he grew up. He graduated from Peabody High School in 1974.

Rick shared 53 years with his wife and soulmate Jeanmarie (DiGianvittorio) Ericson. Married on January 19, 1979, they built a joyful life together raising a beautiful family over 47 years of marriage.

He worked as a truck driver for over 50 years. A dedicated employee of Deering Lumber & Masonry, West Lynn Creamery, and Lindenmeyr Munroe where he was a proud Teamster, Organizer, and Negotiator. He was an avid fisherman. He loved spending time going down the Rowley River to Middle Ground, Emerson Rocks, Plum Island, and Halibut Point. He also loved his yearly trips to Grand Lake Stream in Maine with his friends.

Rick's was also a Motorcycle Enthusiast. His pride and joy was his 1974 BMW R90S. A bike he cherished and maintained with great care. He also loved riding his 1996 FLH Harley-Davidson affectionately known as "Old Blackie". Rick found freedom and joy on the open road, traveling to places such as the Blue Ridge Parkway and Nova Scotia, and he especially looked forward to his yearly trips to Laconia for Bike Week with his friends.

He loved antiquing and exploring flea markets, always on the lookout for old junk. He took great pleasure in bringing old finds back to life.

One of the most memorable times of his life was camping, hiking, and fishing with his daughters. The time they shared outdoors brought him his greatest happiness. A skilled craftsman, Rick could fix nearly anything. In his later years he became a handyman who enjoyed helping others.

He treasured summers at Pleasant Lake in Maine, spending time with family and those dear to him. Above all, Rick cherished his role as "Pops" to his grandson Henry Hardy whom he loved dearly.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Jeanmarie (DiGianvittorio) Ericson of Rowley, Massachusetts; his daughter, Kristen Ericson-DiPietro and her husband John DiPietro of Malden, Ma; his daughter Tina (Ericson) Hardy and her husband John Hardy; and his adored grandson Henry Hardy of Rowley, Ma.

Rick will be greatly missed. He was among the kindest, and most honest people I've known. We met in the Fall of 1988, when Lindenmeyr Paper was merged with D.F. Munroe. The Lindenmeyr contract was terminated by the Company, and the Lindenmeyr drivers and warehousemen were transferred into the two D.F. Munroe warehouses in Peabody and Mansfield under a closing agreement between Teamsters Local 504 and the Employer. Rick was among the core pro-Union unit employees in Peabody, and Rick, as a past Local 25 member at Dave's Air Freight, was indispensable in leading what became a 12 year struggle that finally resulted in bringing all Lindenmeyr Munroe workers in Massachusetts under a Local 504 collective bargaining agreement, including restoration of Employer required contributions into the New England Teamsters and Trucking Industry Pension Plan. It would not have happened without dedicated workers like Rick. Rick was a true friend and Brother Union member. Me, my wife Solangel, and our two children Nicole and Reuben loved Rick for his incredibly positive outlook on life, his great humor, advice on anything relative to plumbing, carpentry, auto repair; his love of his family.

Rick made the World a better place for all that shared it with him. Thank you for that Rick. Rest in peace my Brother.
