He was born April 20, 1935 at Chapman, KY, son of Benson Ray and Myrtle Chapman Fugitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 58 years Linda Curtright Fugitt, and his sister Kathleen.
He began his teaching career by teaching 8th grade math and science while serving as assistant football coach at Nicholasville and Jessamine County High School. He then accepted an assistant football coaching position at Dixie Heights High School, where he taught science at Turkey Foot Junior High School. The following year he was hired as the head football coach to replace Bill Shannon and joined the faculty at Dixie, where he taught math and science. While at Dixie, he served as Athletic Director and girls golf coach. In 1998, he retired from the position of Associate Executive Director and in 2001, he and his wife returned to Nicholasville.
