Charlie was born on October 9, 1939, in Wadesville, Indiana to the late Vernon Vinson and Catherine (Owens) Gambrel. He worked for American Family Insurance as an automobile appraiser. Charlie enjoyed playing clabber, fishing, puttering around the yard and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren playing sports.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Bonnie (Kelley) Gambrel; son, Barry (Kim) Gambrel; daughter, Rhonda (Neal) Beuligmann; sister, Linda Carol Winternheimer; brothers, David (Sherri) Gambrel and Dennis (Janet) Gambrel; brother-in-law, Gary (Cora Lee) Kelley; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren with one more on the way, nieces, nephews and close friends, Bobby, Frank and Marv.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by a son, Kent Gambrel; brother, Larry (Brenda) Gambrel and in-laws, Galen and Dora Kelley.
Funeral services for Charlie will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating. Burial will follow in Poseyville Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until service time on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
