Charles Winston Gibbs Sr., 90, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 6, 2025. He was born in Franklin County on May 4,1935 to the late Rufus Henry and Rebecca Pearce Gibbs.

Charles graduated from Franklinton High School in 1954 and was the quarterback of the football team. Charles served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He married the love of his life, Ella Faye Wilder, on July 26, 1964. Charles worked for the State of North Carolina for 38 years before retiring.

Charles was a devoted husband, cherished father and adored Papa and Great Papa. He enjoyed traveling with Ella Faye and spending time with his family. Charles was a fan of the NC State Wolfpack, loved his Folgers Coffee, and was active in the Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church. Charles had a special place in his heart for his little dog, Peaches, who spent much of her time curled up on his lap.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ella Faye Gibbs; sons: Charles (Jennifer) and Derek (Angie); grandchildren: Jacob, Kristin, Heather (Justin), Joshua (Imène), Ashley, Joshua (Lindsey) and Justin; great-grandchildren: Kasen, Evelyn, and Jake; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Margaret Mitchell and Elaine Mangum; and twin sons: Bradford and David.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, October 9th, 2025, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, E Green St and S Chavis St, Franklinton.

The family will receive friends and relatives prior to the service, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
