Charles Stephen "Chuck" Hager

Charles "Chuck" Stephen Hager, 83, of Ventura, California, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025.

Chuck was born on January 17, 1942, in San Diego, California, to Dorance and Helen (Russell) Hager. He spent most of his childhood on a farm near Red Wing, Minnesota.

In 1963, Chuck met the love of his life, Sharon, and they were married on June 12, 1964. The couple moved to California that same year, where Chuck began a dedicated career in education. He started teaching in September 1964 in the Hueneme School District, primarily at Blackstock Junior High School in Oxnard, until his retirement in 2003. Chuck taught art and math and developed a unique work experience program that placed at-risk students in jobs on the two local Navy bases, leaving a lasting impact on many young lives.

In 1973, he and Sharon made a commitment to their Christian faith, which became a cornerstone of his life. He cherished the fellowship and community provided by his beliefs.

Chuck was very fond of planning road trips across the United States and Canada with his family. He enjoyed trips in their RV, camping, hiking, and fishing. Chuck also loved working with his hands and was always involved in a project. If he didn't know how to do something, he would research it and figure it out. His hobbies included woodworking, through which he crafted beautiful furniture and clocks; restoring cars, including a 1958 Corvette; and watercolor painting. Above all, he loved spending time with his four grandchildren, whom he adored.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sharon Hager. He was a devoted father to Troy Hager and his wife Karen of San Mateo, CA; Kristina Hager of London, UK; and Todd Hager and his wife Jenny of Agoura Hills, CA. He was the cherished grandfather (Grampy) of Brooke, Sage, Trevor, and Camille. He was preceded in death by his brother, Sherwin and survived by his sisters Carol Davidson of Bakersfield, CA, Barbara Good of Phoenix, AZ, and Linda Orinski of Goodyear, AZ, as well as extended family and friends near and far.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home in Camarillo, CA. A reception for family and friends will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amyloidosis Research Consortium at arci.org in honor of Charles Hager.
