Charles Russell Hamilton, Jr. was born on May 10, 1934 to Grace Burns and Charles Russell Hamilton in Chewalla, Tennessee. He was raised by his uncle Jake where he helped run the family farm raising cotton and other crops. In the 1950s, Charles moved to Dallas, where he met and married Marilyn Wilson in 1955. They moved to Garland and had three children. Charles Russell, Sharon Kay, and Michael Lee. They lost Sharon to leukemia when she was three years old. Charles and Marilyn divorced in 1960. Charles worked for the city of Garland leading a survey crew, then used his expertise to run his own successful business, Garland Asphalt Co. for many decades. Charles later met and married JoAnn Meredith who he deeply loved and shared many pleasures like country music and fishing. They blended their families, including Donald, Gerald, and Sherryl Cooley. They have been close for over fifty years. Charles lost his eldest son Charles in 2008. Charles spent his many years fully enjoying his life traveling with JoAnn and spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He succumbed to the effects of Parkinson's on June 24, 2022. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. I worked at Richardson ISD from 1992-2008 in the facilities department. Charlie was one of our contractors doing, athletic field work, paving, drainage work, and other related work. He was always good to work with and did excellent work.
I also lived in Garland not far from him and he gave me tips on where to harvest the best pecans.
I moved away to PA after I retired but I stayed in touch with him by phone on occasion.
A great friend who will be missed.
