Charles I. Hesley of Stone Ridge passed away on January 27, 2026 in Kingston, NY. He was 84 years old.
Charles (known as "Sonny" growing up in West Shokan) was born in Kingston, NY on May 16, 1941 to Catherine Lucy Roe and Charles Irving Hesley (known as Irving) of West Shokan, NY.
Charles served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. After leaving the Service, he worked for the NYC Water Department in Newburgh, and then in Shokan. He married Mary Jane Collier and they had one son, Matthew Charles. Charles was a fisherman and hunter most of his life. He also loved music and dancing with his wife of 49 years. They attended the Olivebridge and Samsonville churches.
Charles' family would like to extend thanks and gratitude to the staff of Health Alliance Hospital for the care and support they provided, and a very special thank you to the young man who sang "Amazing Grace." The family would also like to express their thanks to Marbletown First Aid for getting to us, and to Megan and Dr. Matthew Stupple for getting Mary there during the inclement weather.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Charles' name to the Olivebridge United Methodist Church, PO Box 1397, Olivebridge, NY 12461.
A memorial visitation will be held at Humiston Funeral Home in Kerhonkson on Friday, March 20 from 4 - 7 PM. A graveside service with military honors will take place on Saturday, March 21 at 11 AM at Tongore Cemetery in Olivebridge, NY.
