Humiston Funeral HomePhyllis S. Schoonmaker passed away in the Town of Ulster on February 21, 2026. She was 99 years old.
Phyllis was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 22, 1926 to Philip and Edith Schulz. She grew up in Ulster Park and attended Kingston High School, where she graduated with a major in business office skills. She married her high school sweetheart, John, and relocated to Ellenville, where she was employed at Marvin Millwork. She achieved the position of Office Manager. Doors and windows were her specialty, and every lumber yard in the area knew her and recognized her expertise. Phyllis and John moved to Napanoch and resided there for sixty-two years, and had the best neighbors you could ask for. Phyllis and John loved to travel to beaches on the East Coast, as well as many trips to Las Vegas; thirteen, to be exact!
Phyllis was a devoted member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Ellenville, and served on the Church Council. She enjoyed bowling with her family, and also bowled in a women's league, on a team called Valley Gardens, now called Saunderkill Farms. She was also a TRUE Mets fan; she stuck with them through thick and thin! Phyllis was a wonderful wife and mother, and made the best potato salad anywhere.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, John, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Schoonmaker. She is survived by her son, John; niece, Mary Grant; three step-granddaughters: Lori, Pamela, and Gretchen; three great-grandchildren: Shelby, Abigail, and Emerson; and one great-great granddaughter, Rylie.
A memorial visitation will be held at Humiston Funeral Home on Thursday, March 19 from 9:30AM - 1PM, with a prayer service officiated by Pastor Tim Bupp beginning at 12PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Phyllis' name to any charitable organization.
