Mike passed away on February 17, 2026, at home, A man that loved his family and the outdoors has left us for now. Mike was born April 24, 1951, in West Point NY to the late John A. and Elsie A. (DeWitt) Coombs He leaves us at the age of 74.
Mike married Donna Coombs on March 31, 1984, in Napanoch. Mike was a loving man who placed the needs of others before his own. Whether it be something as simple as advice or help with old school knowledge Mike would help and be straight forward with anyone. He was a man with much wisdom and knowledge and was always willing to pass it all on.
Mike held many different hats, which include the most recent employment at the Village of Ellenville Sewer Department from which he retired.
He was a long-time member of the Ellenville Elks Lodge (BPOE 1971) of which he was a Trustee for many years, and a longtime member of the America Legion.
Mike leaves behind his siblings, Susan (Steven) Horwath of Florida, Cindy (Gary) Garcia of Minnesota, and Jackie (William) Mitchell of California. His daughter Erica Brooks (Joseph Johnson) of Kerhonkson. Grandchildren Sadie and Landen Brooks, Keara Johnson (Ryan Sheremetta), along with many nieces and nephews. Along with his fur grandchildren which include the famous Gus the Goose. (Which he never did understand). Even with the confusion of the goose, he would continue to encourage the adoptions of other poultry.
Mike is predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years Donna Coombs, late son Scott A. Coombs from a previous marriage, his parents John and Elsie Coombs, Brother in laws Jackie and Billy Sheley, and William Mitchell. Mike was also predeceased by his dog Benji.
Mike was an amazing and caring father, grandfather and person. Who will be sincerely missed by the people who truly knew him. Mike valued his time spent with his close friend that he referred to as " Little Mikey". Mike valued their time spent metal detecting along with preparing for the seasons, and general conversations.
As per Mike and Donna's wishes a memorial for both of them will be Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Ellenville Elks Lodge 4pm-7pm. In Lieu of flowers please send donations to St, Judes children's Hospital.
