Charles Heup Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Plymouth on Jul. 26, 2022.
After a lifelong struggle with Cystic Fibrosis and an eleven-year battle with colon cancer, Pastor Charles Harold Heup entered eternal life on Thursday, July 21 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee surrounded by his wife, daughter and family.
He was born January 29, 1955 in Beaver Dam, WI to Howard and Elaine (Lueck) Heup. He was received into God's kingdom through baptism at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam, WI.
During his early life he moved to Watertown, WI, then Milwaukee. When his father accepted a call to be a teacher in 1960, the family moved to Winona, MN where Charles attended St. Matthew Lutheran School and was confirmed in his faith there in 1969. Then the family moved to Appleton, WI where Charles attended Fox Valley Lutheran High School and graduated in 1973.
Following high school, Charles pursued the dream he had since he was three years old, to become a pastor. He attended Northwestern Lutheran College in Watertown, WI. After graduating in 1978, he continued pastoral studies at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI. Upon graduating from the Seminary in 1984, Charles received his first call to be a shepherd to God's flock at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Rochester, NY.
While in Rochester, Charles met and married the love of his life, Barbara Wolf, on August 1, 1987.
In 1988, Charles received a divine call to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls, WI where he served for five years. In 1993 Charles accepted a divine call to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and they moved to Plymouth, WI.
Charlie and Barb traveled to China in 2003, where they adopted their daughter, Joanna. This trip was a highlight of their life together as they saw many wonders and beautiful sites of China while welcoming Joanna into their lives. She has been the focus of their family life and a source of joy and pride for Charlie and Barb.
Charlie had various odd jobs during his high school, college and seminary years. Some of those include Fanny Farmer Candy, WHBY radio and Miller Electric Manufacturing in Appleton, WI; St. Paul Nursing Home in Kaukauna, WI; Bethesda Lutheran Home in Watertown, WI; and Cedarburg Dairy (now Kemps Dairy) in Cedarburg, WI. Charlie always kept busy and earned his way through school. He spent one summer doing construction work as well. During his married years, technology became a passionate hobby, which benefited the work he was doing in the church as well. Also an interest in summertime gardening helped to nourish the family with fresh vegetables and florals helped beautify the yard.
Charles is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara, and daughter Joanna. He is further survived by his mother, Elaine Heup; sisters Nancy Albright, Donna (Richard) Raddatz and Paula Heup all of Appleton, WI and brother David (Gwyn) Heup of Green Bay. He is further survived by his mother-in-law Bernice Wolf of Penfield, NY, sisters-in-law Carol (David) Baxter, Susan (Brad) Neuroth and brothers-in-law Robert Wolf, Richard (Angela) Wolf of Rochester metro vicinity, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charles was preceded in death by his father Howard Heup, niece Allison Beiser, and father-in-law Albert Wolf.
