Charles Allen “Charlie” Hines, Sr., 86, owner and operator of Hines and Sons Backhoe, and resident of Culleoka, died Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 3, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Tim McHenry and Rhonda Littleton officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday, August 3, 2025 from 1:00 PM till 3:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
Born October 6, 1938 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Allen Hines and the late Daisy Brooks Dugger Hines. Charlie proudly served in the Tennessee National Guard, and on April 23, 1960, he married Bonnie Underwood. Mr. Hines worked as a cutting room foreman for Maury Manufacturing before establishing Hines and Sons Backhoe. He enjoyed gardening, roping, and training horses and mules. Charlie also enjoyed spending time on the river and boating with family and friends. He loved people, whether it was talking to everyone at Cully’s Market, where he was a permanent fixture, or having his door open for the community. Above all, his family came first, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Charlie was a member of Culleoka Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, Bonnie Underwood Hines, he is survived by his sons, Roy Dwight Hines (Marcie) and James Evans “Jamie” Hines; grandchildren, Joshua Allen Hines, Cody Allen (Sarah) Hines, and Kayla Renea (Josh) Weber; step grandchildren, Shana Martin, Cody Ibbotson, and Colton Ibbotson; great-grandchildren, Lakelyn Weber, Seth Allen Hines, Huntleigh Brooks Hines, Landry David Weber, and Wilder Anakin Hines; and several step great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Roy Thomas Hines; and son, Charles Allen “Chucky” Hines, Jr.
Active pallbearers will be Joshua Allen Hines, Cody Allen Hines, Josh Weber, Johnny Allred, Tony Henson, and David Littleton. Honorary pallbearers will include the members of Culleoka Church of Christ.
