Charles "Gary" Hooper, 85, of Powdersville, South Carolina, beloved husband of Nancy Bridges Hooper, passed away at his home, surrounded by his wife and children, on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
Born on December 25, 1940, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Thomas Starling Hooper and Ella Corinthia Savage Hooper.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, being stationed in Pakistan and Springfield, Massachusetts. After starting his career working at General Electric in maintenance, he pursued a bachelor’s degree. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business and continued his career growth at Digital Corporation, becoming a manager over facilities. He finished his working years at Ahlstrum/Sulzer. Gary was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, where his caring and loving nature shone through in all his interactions. He was active in his Sunday School class, where he served as Class President. He served as an usher for many years. Outside of family and faith, Gary found joy in simple pleasures. He enjoyed gardening for many years and grew delicious vegetables that he shared with friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Nancy Bridges Hooper, a son, Gary Christopher Hooper; a daughter, Amy Hooper Cunningham (Jonathan); two granddaughters, Emily Gueye (Ousseynou) and Lauren Harris (Tyler); and his grandson, Benjamin Cunningham (Megan).
In addition, Gary is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Leonard, Ralph, Ray, Gene, and Jerry Hooper; three sisters Helen Batson, Betty Tollison, and Dorothy Moody. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him, leaving a lasting imprint on our hearts.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM at Rock Springs Baptist Church Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial to follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
