Charles Elbert Howard,75, passed away on December 2, 2023.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.
Charles was born on August 27, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Dr. Richard Howard and Elizabeth (Pence) Howard who proceeded him in death. He grew up in Kanawha, Iowa where he graduated from high school in 1966. Charles entered the United States Army in 1967 and served his country overseas in Germany and Korea.
When he completed his initial enlistment in the service, he attended Grandview University and Drake University, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1974. He returned to Kanawha where he taught high school and was an assistant coach in football and girls' basketball for two years. He then taught at Boone High School for 1 year and was an assistant football coach.
He re-enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Military Policeman at Fort Lewis, Washington for two years and was transferred to Milwaukee, Wisconsin as an army recruiter for two years.
After completing his second term in the army he returned to Drake University obtaining a Master of Science degree and enlisted in the Iowa National Guard for 15 years, serving our country for a total of 25 years. He was employed at the Iowa Air National Guard base.
Charles is survived by his two daughters, Jamie Howard (Aina Andrianotahina); grandsons Donovan and Dominic; and Lorissa Sheeks (Howard), granddaughters Abbie and Anna; his brothers, Richard Andrew Howard (Brenda) and Robert Anthony Howard (Julie); his sister, Carol Elizabeth Brejcha (Pete); 3 nephews, 2 nieces, 2 great nephews and 3 great nieces.

Chuck worked on my parents farm while he was in high school especially when it haying. He was a hard worker and had a lot of fun despite the fact it was work. I also remember that he was more than willing to give me answers to a test question that I didn't know.
You have my sympathies.
