Charles "Chuck" Royce Hurst went to be with Jesus on Sunday February 8, 2026, at Pickerington Methodist Hospital after courageously battling cancer for several years. Chuck was a resident of
Pickerington, OH for 35 years, making it his longest home.
Chuck was born on June 12, 1942, in
Michigan City, Indiana. Chuck was a high school graduate and went on to complete an associate's degree in accounting. Chuck was a United States Air force veteran. He proudly served his country. His favorite times in the military were when he was stationed in Korea and a position at the Pentagon.
After his military service, Chuck worked as an accountant in both Maryland and Ohio. In retirement, he continued working at several part time jobs including Kidventure Child Care as a co-owner with his wife Marla, Peterman as a bus driver for Pickerington Local School District, and a custodian at Pickerington Elementary. Chuck loved to work and took pride in his work no matter what he was doing. His favorite "job" of all was being Papa to grandchildren, Parker and Aberdeen.
Chuck will be remembered as always being willing to offer a helping hand, he enjoyed volunteer work, including assisting in building an entire church! He loved people, talking to others and learning about them.
Chuck enjoyed many hobbies and interests including model trains, landscaping, any outdoor activities, and gardening. He was known to grow tomatoes plants 6 feet and higher.
Chuck knew conversational Spanish and Korean. He enjoyed using these skills whenever he got the opportunity.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Chuck and Carolyn Hurst.
He attended Epiphany Lutheran Church and was a member of the Pickerington Senior Center.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marla Hurst. A sister, Susan (William) Crowl of LaPorte, Indiana. Children Sarah (James) Hurst-Pelfrey of
Pickerington, OH, and Jonathan Hurst, also of
Pickerington, OH. Beloved grandchildren Parker McIntire and Aberdeen Pelfrey. Multiple nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
