Charles "Bubba" Janner, Jr. age 87 of Somerville, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, with family by his side.
Bubba was born in Washington County on June 30, 1938, to Charles and Emma (Rust)
Janner. He attended elementary school in the Mound Hill Community, was confirmed at Friedens United Church, Brenham, and graduated from Somerville High School in May of 1956. On June 30, 1956, he married his beautiful bride, Mary Kay Brewton, at Friedens United Church in Brenham. Together, they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage.
Raised in the cattle and ranching lifestyle, Bubba's deep roots in the land shaped his life's work. He devoted most of his years tending to livestock and caring for the land he loved, living out the values of family and hard work.
Bubba embodied the heart of a true country boy. He cherished his family above all, and nothing brought him more joy than sharing the outdoors with his grandchildren-hunting, fishing or teaching them about ranch life. Whether it was working cattle or mending fences, Bubba showed them the meaning of responsibility and the reward of honest labor. When time allowed, he enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson, and seeing new places with his wife, fishing on the Brazos River and barbecuing for the family.
Bubba is preceded in death by grandson Travis Janner; his parents; brothers and sisters-in-
laws, Herbert and Gloria Janner, Milton and Elvera Janner; brother-in-law Hermann Weiss;
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Morris "Bubba" and Helen Brewton and Clarence and Liz Herzog.
Survivors include his wife Mary Kay Janner, children Russell "Rusty" and his wife Katy Janner, Gayle Bednar; grandchildren Ray Janner, Pamela and Eric Plagens, Brandon and Kaley Bednar and Shea and Taylor Janner; great-grandchildren Cooper and Tucker Plagens, Paige and
Clay Bednar, Haizel, Travis, and Riggs Janner; sister Lavern Weiss.
Visitation for Bubba will be held Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm at
Brenham Memorial Chapel with family present from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
A funeral service will take place Monday, August 18, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, Prairie Hill with Pastor Norman Sulaica, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at
Independence Cemetery, 8675 Coles Road, Brenham, Texas, 77833.
Serving as pallbearers are Ray Janner, Brandon Bednar, Shea Janner, Eric Plagens, Cooper
Plagens and Randy Janner.
Honorary pallbearers are Pamela Plagens, Kaley Bednar, Taylor Janner, Tucker Plagens, Paige and Clay Bednar, Haizel, Travis and Riggs Janner.
