Charles Jarvie Obituary

Charles Boland "Chuck" Jarvie Jr., 85, of Springdale, passed away peacefully on Aug. 9, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on April 18, 1940, in Pittsburgh, to Pearl Payton Jarvie and Charles Boland Jarvie Sr., Chuck grew up in Indianola, a place that always held a special place in his heart. He graduated from Oakmont High School and California State Teacher's College, beginning his professional life as a teacher before discovering his true calling. After enrolling at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science (PIMS), he embarked on a distinguished career as a funeral director, serving families with compassion and care for more than 59 years. Although he spent most of his adult life in Springdale, a community he deeply loved, Chuck was forever proud to be an "Indianola boy." He often fondly spoke of his "Indianola people," treasuring the memories and friendships formed there throughout his life. While attending PIMS, Chuck met the love of his life, Margaret Barey. They married in Feb. 1964 and settled in Springdale, where Chuck began his apprenticeship at Clowes Funeral Home under the guidance of Allen "Barney" Clowes. In time, their partnership evolved into the Clowes-Jarvie Funeral Home, eventually becoming the Charles B. Jarvie Funeral Home, where Chuck built his legacy. Known for his kindness, wit, and deep compassion, Chuck had an extraordinary ability to comfort others in their most difficult moments. He loved the communities he served and was honored to be recognized as the longest-serving licensed funeral director in the Alle-Kiski Valley. Chuck's greatest joy was his family. He took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, and, most recently, his great-granddaughter. Outside of work, he was an avid golfer, a passionate follower of the sport, and a true golf aficionado. His love for the game took him to beautiful courses near and far and gifted him with treasured, lifelong friendships. Dedicated to service, Chuck was a lifelong member of the Springdale Volunteer Fire Department and an active supporter of organizations including the Lions Club and Kiwanis. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Margaret (Barey) Jarvie; his children, Charles (Karen) Jarvie, Kate (Jeff) Cain, and Jennifer (Todd) Schromm; his cherished grandchildren, Alexis (Alex), Vance, Julian, Madison, Riley, Ryan, Maura, and Aaron; his great-granddaughter, Blair; his beloved brother, John "Jack" (Mary Jo) Jarvie; and many loving nieces and nephews. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Mark Peconi for his kindness, compassion, and friendship as a caregiver, and to Paul Wolfhope as Chuck's longtime trusted business colleague and cherished friend of the Jarvie family. A heartfelt thank you to all the communities Chuck had the honor of serving. To honor Chuck's civic-minded spirit, please consider a donation to the Lower Valley Ambulance Service, 1201 Freeport Road, Cheswick, 15024, in his name. Friends will be received from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, at CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St., Springdale. A Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1526 Union Ave., Natrona Heights, with private interment. Chuck was such a nice young man when I knew him from when the kids from Indianola came over to attend Oakmont High School. He was friends with my brother, Lee Pyle, and it was a pleasure when he came to our house as he was respectful and kind. My sympathies to his family for such a great loss.

As always, so sad a thing to hear.
My best to his family!
Being a fellow Indianola-ite, Chuck and I knew one another our entire lives and shared many events, laughs, & tears over the years.
He buried many of my family and many, many of my friends and acquaintances....always
with his personal caring and dignity.
A tremendous loss & void to Indianola and the area!!
I, for one, will miss him!
