Charles Elmer "Chuck" Jentz, 86, of Platteville, Wisconsin died Sunday, April 7, 2024. Chuck was born September 27, 1937 to Edward and Clara (Derr) Jentz in the Dodgeville Hospital. He, his parents and 3 sisters lived in Edmund, WI until he was 2 ½ years old, when the family moved to Platteville to the Jentz Family Farm, Harrison Township. Chuck went to the Poller School for one year, then to the Lab School at the college. He attended Platteville High School until he was 16, when his father had a stroke, he needed to quit school to help on the farm. On February 20, 1960, Chuck married his sweetheart, Darlene A. Stark at the First English Lutheran Church in Platteville. Chuck, Darlene and their 6 children worked the family farm until October 1989. They then moved into Platteville and Chuck took a job at McDonald's doing maintenance for 21 years. In 2011, Chuck and Darlene sold their home and moved to Pioneer Ridge Apartments, where he did maintenance for 3 years for the apartment complex. Chuck enjoyed hunting up north in Jackson County, WI, bowling, Euchre card club and watching the old classic TV shows and westerns. He also had a collection of owls.
Chuck is survived by his wife Darlene, children, Kay Schwahn, Ann (Dave) Vosberg, Dennis (Julie) Jentz, Janet (Jeff) Frederick, David Jentz and Karen (Chuck) Watson; grandchildren, Julie (Jay) Bell, Kevin (Angela) Schwahn, Brian (Kari) Schwahn, Michelle (Casey) Pickel, Jeremy (Nicci) Vosberg, Tim Vosberg, Jordan (Caitlin) Frederick, Jaron (Rafael Vasquez) Frederick and Tricia (Wes Rogler) Jentz; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws Joyce (Gary) Borgmann and LeRoy (Sue Thruman) Stark and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and their spouses, Jeraldine (Fred) Morse, Audrey (Vernon) Wilkinson and Lois (Dick) Martens father and mother-in-law, Edward and Mabel Stark, and a special brother-in-law Jack Reiter.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville, WI. The visitation will be from 11:00 AM on Saturday until the time of service. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.melbyfh.com.
