Obituary published on Legacy.com by Melby Funeral Home & Crematory on Dec. 10, 2025.
Robert V Borcherding, 75, of Tomah, Wisconsin, formerly of Belmont, died on Thursday, December 4th, 2025.

Robert was born on December 10, 1949, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the son of Henry and Elizabeth "Beth" (Doescher) Borcherding. Robert grew up on the family farm along with his 10 siblings. He kept himself busy growing up by doing woodworking in high school, he created many wooden bowls. He graduated from Belmont High School. After graduation he took classes at UW-Platteville, studying to be an industrial arts teacher. Robert decided to leave college and enlist in the United States Army on May 10, 1972, serving through April 5, 1974. He was an MP (mop pusher as he called it) stationed at Panama central command. He liked to swim, especially jumping off the bridge into the Pecatonica River. He enjoyed being out in nature and frequently walked to the Belmont mound and explored the various rock formations and the view. He loved to eat, some of his favorite foods were his mom's homemade cream puffs and German chocolate cake along with making popcorn balls as part of the Christmas tradition.

Robert always had lots of stories he enjoyed sharing from his time in the military. After Robert left the military he moved back to Belmont, then lived in Prairie du Chien for a while, and finally ended up in Tomah.

Robert is survived by his 9 siblings, Kent (Jane) Borcherding of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, Gary Borcherding of Darlington, Wisconsin, Lynn Borcherding of Belmont, Wisconsin, Joan (Michael) Russell of Jonesdale, Wisconsin, Burl Borcherding of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jill Borcherding of Madison, Wisconsin, Jeff (Colleen) Borcherding of Blanchardville, Wisconsin, Brigham (Mary) of Waunakee, Wisconsin, and Theodore "Ted" Borcherding of Lancaster, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Carley. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brother Paul.
