Charles John Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Cremation & Burial Society - Greater Canton Area on Mar. 10, 2026.
Charles (Chuck) N. John age 90, of Canton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026, at the Aultman Women's Board Compassionate Care Center. He was born July 13, 1935, in Massillon, Ohio to Charles and Thelma (Hinchcliff) John. The second of three children.

Chuck worked at Diebold as a draftsman for 20 years and then went on to work for Joy Manufacturing, retiring at 62.

Chuck enjoyed performing with the Canton Players Guild where he also helped build sets for numerous plays and musicals. He also performed in several shows at Kent State. Chuck loved photography and was a member of the Wilderness Center Nature Photo Club. He participated in their annual Photo Fest and built display shelves for that event. Chuck was born under a wandering star and enjoyed traveling. His travels took him to all 50 states, some more than once, ten countries in Europe, all Canadian provinces, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Chuck's singing was one of his greatest joys. He enjoyed singing in the choir, singing solo during church services, weddings, at nursing homes, at weekly karaoke locations and in the car. He created CDs of his collections of songs and would give them to people to enjoy.

He has been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Perry Heights for many years where he participated in the MYF, the Chancel Choir, the men's breakfast and participated in several committees.

Chuck is survived by daughters: Sheri John of Columbus, Shelli (Don) Fehlman of Canton; sister: Rita Woodford of Louisville; grandchildren: Adam Elseser, Lindsey Brown, and Megan (Brett Weekly) Fehlman; great grandchildren: Jordan, Chase, Parker, and Emma.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his companion of thirty years, Carol Wheeler; and sister, Karen.

The family would like to thank the Aultman Medical Group Inpatient Medicine and nursing staff at Aultman Hospital and the Compassionate Care Center at Woodlawn for the care and compassion they provided to Chuck and his family during his illness. The family would also like to thank Dr. Louis Shaheen for his years of continued support that he provided to Chuck.

Calling hours will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church of Perry Heights, 3757 Lincoln Way East, Massillon on Wednesday, March 25th at 10:00am, with services following at 11:00am. Condolences and special memories of Chuck can be shared online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com
