Charles Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chamberland Funerals & Cremations on Feb. 17, 2026.
Charles Edward Johnson, affectionately known as "Chumly," was born on November 17, 1964, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. At just 17 years old, he answered God's call and became an ordained minister, a powerful testament to the anointing that marked his life. A proud graduate of Business and Management Center, Class of 1983, he continued his theological studies at Criswell College, faithfully pastoring Spring Creek Baptist Church in Tyler, Agape Missionary Baptist Church, and New Seasons Ministries. Through preaching, teaching, and shepherding, he touched countless lives and faithfully served the Gospel with wisdom, compassion, and conviction.

Beyond the pulpit, Charles worked as an insurance adjuster, carrying the same integrity and care into his professional life. His influence even extended to the screen with an appearance in the film The Apostle. Yet his greatest impact was never on a stage, but in the hearts of those he loved. Servant. Prayer Warrior. Agape. Hilarious. Faithful. He loved reading, teaching, preaching, singing, cooking, enjoying a good meal, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and spending cherished time with family. His laughter filled rooms, and his presence brought joy wherever he went.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Fields; his stepmother, Jimmy Fields; and his sister, Glenda June Alexander.

Those left to cherish lasting memories include his children, Jacorey, Charles (Jazmin), Ebony (Ralph), and Christopher; his stepson, Luke; his five grandchildren, Skylar, Jordan, Sir Ralph, Carson, and Everly; his mother, Mary Johnson; his sisters, Marilyn, Jean, Winnie, Linda, Gail, Angeletta, and Nakieta; his brothers, Deryl and Keith; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
