Charles "Jack" Kirmes, Jr. of Clayton passed away, Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Christiana Care, Wilmington, DE. He was 64.
Mr. Kirmes was born June 29, 1959 in Chester County, Pennsylvania to the late Charles Jack Kirmes, Sr. and Alice Wasley Kirmes.
In 1983 he was hired with the Department of Corrections and worked at Gander Hill, in 1984 he transferred to the Staff Training Academy and in 1999 he was promoted to Corpral, in 2001 he was promoted to Sergeant and in 2019 promoted to Lieuenant at Kent County Community Corrections. In 2020 he helped open the Community Corrections Treatment Center. Mr. Kirmes was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna. Bowling was a hobby and had met his late wife Charlotte while they were both bowling. He enjoyed watching the Eagles and Philly's and working crossword puzzles and collecting memorabilia of different things. He loved to travel but hated flying.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte Jackson Kirmes and his only sister, Nancy Baum.
He is survived by his son, Steven Lennox Kirmes of Rehoboth, DE and daughter, Nicole Lynn Law and her husband Nicholas of Williamsburg, IA; grandchildren, Rachel Kirmes and William Lennox Law, and several nieces, nephews, sisters and brother in laws.
Funeral services will be held 7PM, Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. A viewing will be held from 5-7.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to children of Charles Kirmes for his grandchildren
