Charles was born on April 19, 1959, in Carthage, New York, the son of the late Everett and Harriett Dastouch LaVancha. He attended local schools in Harrisville and went to work in tree service. He married Rosemary Carr on April 19, 1959 in Pilgrim Holiness Church with Rev. Paul Case presiding. Charles joined the Local IBEW 1249 where he worked for various tree services companies including Asplundh and Nelson's over his career.

Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and was always ready to join them in whatever they wanted to do. He enjoyed sharing stories, had a knack for making friends wherever he went, and truly was a friend to everyone he met.
