Charles R. Lewis, a beloved member of the Louisburg community, passed away on October 6, 2025, at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on June 9, 1945, in Kansas City, Kansas, he was a cornerstone of strength, responsibility, and generosity who touched the lives of many through his unwavering commitment to service.
Charles served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era, where he was stationed in Japan. His service shaped his character, instilling in him a sense of discipline and duty that he carried throughout his life.
A man of profound reliability, Charles was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He was an active member of numerous organizations, including the American Legion Post 250 and the Louisburg Lions Club. His dedication to the community was evident through his involvement with the Harvesters Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels for the Louisburg Senior Center. Additionally, he spent many winters as a Salvation Army Bell Ringer, embodying the spirit of giving and kindness.
Charles had a zest for life that radiated through his interests and hobbies. He enjoyed sports, particularly as a catcher on his work softball team, and found joy in playing cards and bowling. His love for travel also led him to cherish new experiences both near and far. Yet, it was his volunteer work that truly reflected his compassionate heart and desire to uplift others.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Lewis, and their four children: Charles (Vicki) Lewis II, Julie (Kenny) Williams, John (Charlotte) Lewis, and Brian (Sabrina) Lewis. Charles was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and a doting great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Mary Wagner and Rhonda (Keith) Frazee.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mary Lewis, and his brother, John Lewis. His legacy of kindness, service, and love for his family will forever be cherished by those he leaves behind.
