Charles E. Lorenz, II
On April 9, 2025, Charles Edmund Lorenz Il began his heavenly journey with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after an unexpected illness.
If you knew "Chuck", a couple of thoughts resonated: his love for his family and that the first thing he was going to say to his mom was "Hi Red." Chuck wore many "hats" as a son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, executive director, lawyer, and teacher. Mostly, he was a person of Christian kindness, intelligence, integrity, and humor, and loved cheering on the Guardians and the Browns.
Charles was born in Dennison, Ohio on November 11, 1950, to Flora (Walton) Lorenz and Charles Lorenz. His primary education began in New Philadelphia Schools, and then his family moved to Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, where he attended elementary school for three years.
The family returned to New Philadelphia, and Charles graduated from high school in 1969. Upon graduation, he attended Kent State Tuscarawas and main campuses, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science in 1973, followed by a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Ohio University in 1974 while working part-time at a bakery. Shortly after, he began a career at Harcatus that spanned 41 years, retiring in 2016 from the position of Executive Director. During the Harcatus years, Charles attended the University of Akron School of Law in the evenings completing his Juris Doctorate in 1984. He practiced part-time in downtown New Philadelphia over the years.
Charles was a member of the Sharon Moravian Church, a member of the ministry of Dr. David Jeremiah Shadow Mountain Church, Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau, Tuscarawas County Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, past Board member and Chairperson of the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development, and former member of the YMCA.
Charles had a keen interest in aviation at a young age, taking flying lessons at the Harry Clever Field and flying solo as a teen. This interest continued to the present as he enjoyed watching simulated flights on his laptop, as well as bicycling, cooking, traveling, and taking care of the lawn alongside his sister Dee.
Charles is survived by his loving family members, Dee Lorenz of the home (Kevin Sherer), Kay (Larry) Lorenz-Trunk, Joy (Brett l) Patterson, and very cherished nephew Brett Patrick Patterson Il (Caitlynn Long) along with good family friend and co-worker Tina (Tom) Galigher Wallick. He was preceded in death by his parents Flora Mae Lorenz (2021) and Charles Edmund Lorenz I (1992).
Private family services will be held at a later date. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover has been entrusted with arrangements.
Donations may be made to Dr. David Jeremiah Turning Points Ministry, P.O. Box 3838, San Diego, CA 92163, or Ohio's Hospice Truman House, 716 Commercial Avenue S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
