With heavy hearts, the family of Charles Vernon MacGinnis, 72, of Montgomery, Texas, announces that he entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 27, 2025.
Charles was born on February 11, 1953, in
Beaumont, Texas, to Vernon Goynes and Judith Pauline Burdge. He spent his childhood in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and throughout Southeast Texas before entering the United States Army in 1972.
A true jack of all trades, Charles was the man everyone called when they needed help. Day or night, if you reached out, he would be headed your way. Over the course of his life, Charles worked in multiple trades, owned and operated his own logging company, and later transitioned to installing scoreboards and marquees after moving to
Conroe, Texas, in 2005 to be closer to his children. His work ethic was unmatched, and he lived by the words, "A man is only as good as his word." Charles was looking forward to retiring this year, with hopes of returning to Woodville to be near his brothers and to spend more time with family and friends, and doing what he loved most, fishing!
Charles was a proud and loving Father, Pawpaw, and Great-Pawpaw to five daughters, one son, seventeen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. His greatest joy came from time spent with his children and grandchildren, especially cooking in the kitchen-whether it was étouffée, meat pies, or anything he put his hands to. One thing was certain: whatever he cooked was going to be delicious, and there would be plenty of it. He loved filling his home with family, friends, music, and dancing in the kitchen. "Pawpaw," as the grandkids called him, will forever be remembered for weekends filled with old westerns, pizza, ice cream, and all the soda they could drink.
There are countless memories and stories about Charles-too many to fit into one lifetime. He was a man who lived life to the fullest and stood up for what was right, even when no one was watching. He often said, "That's what integrity is." He was a man of honor, a hero to many, a protector, someone whose presence was immediately felt, and a man with one of the biggest hearts God ever gave a person.
Charles' kindness, humor, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others leaves a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Charles is survived by his siblings Melva Morrell, Judy Pat Macaluso, Jimmy, "James" and wife Lisa MacGinnis Jr., Tommy MacGinnis, Steve Goynes, and Peggy Goynes.
He leaves behind his children: Sue Anne and husband Stephen Keenan, Malinda and husband Marc Morales, Sandra and husband Stuart Nowlin, Kunta and wife Jennifer Range and his Coonie baby, Sharla and husband Jason Waller.
His grandchildren are Memory Watson, Kayla Wagoner, Taylor Waller, Makayla Browdre, Alyse Waller, Cole Waller, Maggie Waller, Jason Waller Jr., and Justin Waller, Madison Range, Hunter Range, and step-grandchildren Zoe Keenan, Mya Ray, Antonio Hernandez, Adrian Hernandez, Mckinlee Nowlin, and Daphnie Nowlin.
His great-grandchildren are Weslynn Atterberry, Adaleah Alvarado, Colt Alvarado, Geremia Browder, Landon Watson, Garrison Watson, and step great-grandchildren Jordan Ray and AJ Hernandez. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Charles is preceded in death by his daughter Leslie Cher'e MacGinnis; father Vernon Goynes; mother Judith Pauline Burdge; grandmother Ruby Tribes; aunt Betty Babineaux; stepfather Jim, "James" MacGinnis; brother Danny MacGinnis; nieces Tammy Jean Morrell, Paula Morrell, and Kelly Morrell; and brothers-in-law's Gene Morrell and Joe Macaluso.
