Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors - AugustaAugusta, GA - Charles Rainsford Marks passed away peacefully, the morning of September 20, 2025. He was born in Augusta on February 9, 1944, the son of the late Henry Mortimer Marks, Jr. and Virginia Clark Marks. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Sapp Marks, son, Henry Eve Marks and granddaughter, Celia Eve Marks. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Rainsford Marks, Jr. and his brothers, Henry Mortimer Marks III and John Mulford Marks.
Charles attended The Asheville School and was a 1966 graduate of The University of Georgia, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves where he served as a Medic. He began his professional career with Marks Surgical Supplies of Augusta and later started a hardwood flooring and manufacturing business. Charles was a member of The Augusta Country Club, the Augusta Assembly, the Heritage Club, a past board member of The Augusta Training Shop, and a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd.
The outdoors and the simple pleasures it offered were a great source of happiness for Charles. Whether hunting with his sons in Burke County, fishing off the coast of South Carolina, or casting a line in his favorite pond, these are the things that brought him joy and peace. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at The Church of the Good Shepherd. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall, one hour prior to the service.
