LAKE WAYNOKA - Charles Robert Matthews, Sr., age 93, passed away on June 29, 2025. He was born on May 18, 1932, to the late Napoleon Heath and Willie Howard (nee Lewis) Matthews. Charles was the devoted husband of the late Wanda Carol (nee Kitts) Matthews; loving father of Carol R. (Thomas E.) Masslow, Charles R. (Jeanne A.) Matthews, Jr., and Judy A. (Jack) Parnell; beloved grandfather of Christina (Ken) Mullis, Tom Miller, Becky (Spencer) Peet, Andrew Matthews, and the late Charles Matthews III; and cherished great-grandfather of Justin, Christian, Abby, Jakob, Tommy, Max, and Archie.
Charles was a proud United States Navy Veteran and served his country during the Korean War. Additionally, he spent time as a missionary in South Dakota with the Lakota Sioux and in the Appalachians. He enjoyed shooting guns, Indian bead work, fishing, and crab catching when he was home in Maryland.
Family and friends may visit on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 10AM until 11AM funeral service at Life Change Church in Milford, Ohio. Interment with military honors will follow at Pierce Township Cemetery. The family has requested that no flowers be sent, but rather memorial contributions in Charles' honor be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
