Charles "Charlie" Joseph McAllister, 78, of West Monroe passed away at Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Monroe.
Charles was born on October 13, 1947, in New York, New York to Ann Marie Cooper McAllister and Charles Theodore McAllister. He graduated from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. where he met the love of his life, Stephanie Joann Hartmann. Charles was a retired Social Studies teacher who taught at St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel, Maryland and St. Jerome's grade school in Hyattsville, Maryland; later he worked for the Social Security Administration. Charles proudly served his Country by serving in the District of Columbia National Guard in Washington, D.C. for six years.
During his life Charles had a great affection for baseball especially the American League and his beloved New York Yankees. He made trips with his family going to such places as Camden Yards in Baltimore as well as watching the Washington Nationals in D.C. and going to the old and new Yankee Stadiums. Charles even made a trip to upstate New York where his family had moved and visited the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Along with baseball and watching the Dallas Cowboys, he enjoyed going to the railroad tracks to see a train go by. He was a statistical genius when it came to baseball. Charles knew the players, batting averages and when and where they played. He loved baseball that much; it was his second most favorite passion. His number one priority was his family: especially his grandchildren. Charles loved them dearly and he was known to them as "Pappy."
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Stephanie McAllister of West Monroe, his daughter, Laura Thomas, and her husband Matthew of West Monroe; his siblings, Julie Sandusky of Gilboa, New York and Brendan McAllister of Albany, New York; grandchildren, Colin Matthew Thomas and Cooper Reilly Thomas all of West Monroe; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and cousins and other family members who loved him dearly.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles, and Ann McAllister; his sisters, Roseanne Fedo, and Brianne DellaMonica; his Angel Grandson, Charles Michael McAllister.
A gathering of friends and family will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Griffin Funeral Home in West Monroe. Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at Griffin Funeral Home with burial to follow at St. Paschal Catholic Cemetery in West Monroe.
