Mr. Charles McKithen, son of the late Johnny and Martha Coleman McKithen, was born on March 5, 1946, in Florence County. On Saturday January 31, 2026, he entered eternal rest at McLeod Regional Medical Center. The oldest son of nine siblings.
Charles was educated in the public schools of Florence County. He began his career as a budding brick mason and became one of the most prominent brick masons in Florence, SC and continued for over 40 years.
As a lifetime member of New Zion Baptist Church #1 in Timmonsville, SC. He believed in the power of Christ which empowered him throughout life.
On January 6, 1968, Rosa Lee Cummings became Mrs. Charles McKithen at 903 Chase Street. In early 1969, Rosa gave birth to the couple's first child, Charles Tyrone. Shortly thereafter, the young family had three more children, Anthony Leroy, Rosette Veronica and Tracey Wartez. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather; a dedicated son; a loyal brother; a devoted friend; and a faithful servant of God. He was also a man who loved hunting.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Tyrone and Anthony McKithen, a brother, Robert McKithen, Sr, and two sisters Martha McKithen and Agnes James.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted daughter, Veronica and a devoted son, Tracey McKithen (Olivia Lynch) of Florence, SC; four grandchildren, Tracey McKithen, Jr., TraKeria Mumford of Florence, SC, Chaz Harley of Atlanta, GA, and Tyrese McKithen of Charlotte NC; four great-grandchildren Leland Harley, Kameron McKithen, Kobe McKithen, and Kori McKithen of Florence, SC; three sisters, Fronnie Rose of Timmonsville, SC; Nellie Pressley and Patricia (John) Lilly of Florence, SC; and two brothers, Ronald (Linda) McKithen of Dallas, GA and James Willis McKithen of Florence, SC; one sister-in-law, Bertha Cummings; a godson, Shaquan Cummings of Florence, SC; a special caregiver, Adrienne Gibson, and a lifelong friend Mr. Glen Ard of Timmonsville, SC; and a host of special nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends daily from 5 PM - 8 PM at 1326 Talluah Street, Florence, SC.
